Attendance
Attendance at
lectures is mandatory in order to succeed in this class. Attendance will
not be taken, however we expect you to be present and on time.
Experience has shown that excessive absences will adversely affect your
final grade. If you must miss class, it is your responsibility to get
the notes from a classmate.
Labs
A number of class sessions will be
conducted in the Labs. These sessions are designed to give you a chance
to work with several XML database environments, and to experiment with
approaches to project and assignment problems. Be sure to ask
questions about the technologies and techniques that are introduced in
each lab session. This is your chance to get some hands-on
experience and in-depth understanding for XML databases.
Project
As part of a project team, you will design and implement a small
XML database. A detailed description of the project will be
distributed during the course. This description will
outline the requirements for your database, recommended approaches to
team management, and a list of project deliverables and their due
dates. Each team will present a demonstration of their completed
project at the end of the course. The project will require each team
member to apply the concepts learned in class to design and implement an
XML
database. In addition, each of you must utilize your interpersonal
skills to accomplish the project goals. A single team grade will be
assigned for each project
